UCC28180: UCC28180D Schematic , Calculations and testing results.

Part Number: UCC28180

Hi Experts!
I am very interested in ucc28180 PFC controller. I have drawn the schematic and share it with the calculator results do you think is there a problem on the chosen values and on the schematic?
and also i see in some design that there are using a driver like "UCC27517D" for it so , why do they use?

  • Hello Tom,

I looked at the schematic and the design tool and everything looks O.K.

When it comes to driving a FET if you have excessive gate capacitance you should consider using an external gate driver.

The following link will bring you to an application note explaining the in and outs of FET and how to properly drive the gate of the FET.

In a high power application such as yours your FETs may have a lot of gate charge that require driving them with an external gate drive.  Idrive = dQ/dt.  A good rule of thumb is two switch the FET gates in 50 to 100 ns to reduce gate driver switching losses.

    Regards,
