LM25184: Lowest Parts-Count Galvanically-Isolated DC/DC Converter?

Part Number: LM25184
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM5180

Seeking a DC/DC converter, under 10 parts, preferably under 5 parts. Requirements:

  • Input 12V – 24V (variable). Input is coming from a typical laptop wall-wart. (Optional: Precede converter with a regulator, if a constant input voltage is needed (eg, to reduce parts-count).
  • Output +4V to +9V, 2A continuous (unregulated).
  • Don’t need negative output.
  • Very low parts count: under 10 parts, under 5 parts if possible.
  • Don’t need regulation: The purpose of this circuit is just isolation. It’s ok if Vout varies with temperature, load, or Vsupply, as long as it remains between 4V and 9V, 2A. Hoping that will help reduce parts-count and footprint.
  • Isolation isn't related to the grid. So, needed amount of isolation is relatively low.
  • Our current candidate: LM25184, excluding all parts marked optional in Figure 7-1 in datasheet, except Dclamp and DF.

We believe the following:

  • RUV1/2 are to stop the supply in low voltage conditions (don't care in our case)
  • CSS - soft start, don't think we need this. (as long as no spikes in output exceeding 9V)
  • RTC - thermal compensation - don't think we need this.

We're wondering if another device might reduce parts-count even further than LM25184. LM5180 current is too low for our application.
