TPS40400: Power saving method

Part Number: TPS40400
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS549B22, TPS549D22, PMP21440, LMG1210, TPS40101, TPS40322

Hi Team,

Would you advise does TPS40400 have power saving internal register setting or

external part which can save power?

My customer want to reduce Ivdd below to less than 4mA which is required by product.

Any advice should be highly appreciated.

Thanks

Best regards,

Shidara

No, the TPS40400 does not have a low-power function that would reduce the VDD current to 4mA.

If they do not need PMBus Telemetry, we have alternate devices that are able to support a sub-4mA VDD bias current.

Please see the TPS549B22 and TPS549D22 for examples

  • Hi Miller-san

Thank you for the advice and sorry my insufficient explanation.

My customer is looking for proper controller for high efficiency GaN power solution for consumer product

    such like 2cell voltage system.

The customer is designing based on PMP21440 https://www.ti.com/tool/PMP21440

And currently TPS40400 Ivdd is exceeding the product requirement.

So if TI have another recommendation which switches around 1MHz and lower Ivdd<4mA,

and can drive LMG1210 correctly, it will be very much appreciated.

    Thanks

    Best regards,

    Shidara

If they do not need PMBus, there are a number of possible solutions they could consider, depending on the application needs.

TPS40101 is a voltage mode control controller capable of operating upto 1MHz switching frequency with drivers similar to those of the TPS40400.

If they have more than 1 outptut that they need, they could consider the TPS40322 dual controller as well.
