BQ76952: Host controlled cell balancing

Part Number: BQ76952
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQSTUDIO,

I am trying to do host controlled cell balancing, but dont seem to get it to work.
This is the case for when i use a microprocessor or BQstudio.

Cell balance settings used.

When i try to write a value to "0x0083 CB_ACTIVE_CELLS()" it is reset immediately too 0.

Also when i try to set it via BQstudio it writes command 0x40, i cant find that command in the documentation.

what am i doing wrong?

  • Hi Patrick,

See the technical reference manual section 3.1 on sending sub commands.

With a default device I typically check host controlled balancing with the following sequence sent in the bq76952 Command Sequence tab.  Note that the balancing only runs a few seconds by default.  Change to the register tab quickly and refresh to see the CB bit set.  Observe the VC1 pin to see balancing.

See the application note https://www.ti.com/lit/pdf/sluaa81 for other info on cell balancing.
