TPS22965: body diode

1.Can you provide TPS22965   body diode spec?

Diode Forward Voltage?

Maximum Body-Diode Continuous Current?

2.Is it possible to design the following diode to avoid the reverse current through TPS22965?

    We don't have official specifications for Diode forward voltage or continuous current. It is not recommended to have any continuous current thru the body diode.

    A previous colleague had measured the Vf of the body diode 0.6-0.8v

    Using external diode would shunt current around the device if the Vf was <0.6V (vf of internal body diode). Something like a schottky would work here. If you desire for reverse current to be possible this is OK, but in most designs this is undesireable. 

    If you would rather not have any possibility for reverse conduction via body diode.  then we can recommend a different devices, just let me know.

  • Aaron, large enough/duration reverse current thru the body diode can damage the device. 

    We don't have specification for this.

    We have load switch (P-ch based) which are inherently not susceptible to reverse body diode conduction, as well as N-ch devices with reverse current blocking feature which we could recommend. 

    Is your system susceptible to reverse conduction?

    Can adding external diode(Schottky  VF=0.4~0.5V) prevent reverse current from damaging TPS22965?

    If not, please suggest 6A load switch

  • Yes it would prevent reverse current in the device, but it would faciliate reverse current still.

    But it will allow current to pass from VOUT to VIN. We don't have 6A load switch which could prevent this from happenign if VIN goes offline.

    Ideal Diode or Power muxes have back-to-back FET topologies which block current from VOUT to VIN inherently in case VIN goes offline. 

    PMUX is useful if you have multiple voltage sources, e.g. USB power and battery. 

    If you could let me know more about your application (supply voltage, current need, whether you need to switch multiple power source), I could make a recommendation.

    I don't mind the reverse current. I mind if TPS22965 will be damaged
    If the external diode can protect TPS22965 from damage, it’s OK.
