LM66100: Ideal diode function

Part Number: LM66100
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS2121

Hi there, where does the power for the logic part of the circuit come from when VIN is 0V? ie does the VOUT or CE provide power to the circuit when VIN is 0V?

  • Hi Barry,

LM66100 is powered by the highest voltage available either on the input (VIN) or the output (VOUT).

Thank you for choosing TI Power Switches in your designs.

  • Thank you very much for your feedback. Please can you confirm whether or not TWO LM66100 can be used in parallel to reduce the RDS on. This would be required for the ideal diode configuration involving in the original TI application circuit using TWO LM66100 devices to provide continuous power from either a 5V source or a 3V source. I would like to add an additional LM66100 to the ideal diode on the 3V supply leg making it a THREE LM66100 solution? To my mind, the LM66100 on the 5V side is the comparing and controlling device, the one on the 3V side is just a switch? Thank you!

  • Hi Barry,

When using 2x LM66100 to OR, both are switches and both are controllers for the other device.

Furthermore, you also cannot use LM66100 in parallel as the device is not meant for any load sharing applications. I recommend only using a 2x LM66100 implementation or using a device like TPS2121 which is a higher power PowerMUX.
