BQ24072T: Review the Design

Part Number: BQ24072T
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ24072
Dear Sir/Madam,

Greetings from Team Infinicue Solutions!

Please do review the schematic and request you to give your comments on the same.

Best Regards,

  • Hi Savitri and Inflinicue Solutions Team,

    Welcome to E2E!

    From your schematic, I see that you've got the following configuration in regards to the resistor programmable pins:

    • ISET resistor = 1.13-kOhm -> 787 mA charge current
    • TMR resistor = 46.6-kohm -> 20970 second (5.825 hr) safety timer
    • ILIM resistor = 1.18-kOhm -> 1.35 A   input current limit

    With these, I want to make sure that EN2 will be high (1) and EN1 will be low (0) as I noticed they were floating in the schematic.

    There are a few other floating pins such as /CE, TD, and the EP pin. Will /CE and TD be controlled with a microcontroller? We do not recommend leaving the /CE and TD pins floating to ensure proper operation.

    The EP pin should connected to GND.

    For the TS pin, I wanted to ask if any of the resistors there (R29, R30, R31, R32, R34) are NTC resistors. Is the TS Battery Monitoring feature going to be used? I also see that the R34 resistor that pulls up to the VIN is marked with DNP. As the BQ24072T is voltage based TS monitoring, the device will not operate as desired if there is no pullup voltage.

    Aside from that there look to be no issues that would prevent charger operation but I do see that there is a 3V3 regulator connected to the battery. Do note that this may increase the battery charge time. It looks like the OUT pin is marked with a NC symbol, is there going to be a load on the OUT pin?
