TPS61091: What happens if VBAT is 5V on the 3.3V version(TPS61091RSA)?

Part Number: TPS61091
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS63802

We have a design with a TPS61091RSA which is powered with 5V on VBAT. We expected a output on VOUT of 3.3V.  If we power it with 1.8V the ouput is as expected 3.3V. Is this chip able to Buck Convert?

  • Hi Leitner:

It's a boost converter, which mainly support Vin<Vout. If you want to regulate 3.3V whether Vin is higher or lower to that, I will recommend you have a look at BuckBoost converter, Like TPS63802

  • Hi Minqiu,

Thanks for the fast answer. It would be helpful to add this information in the Datasheet since there is conflicting information regarding input and output voltage. When max Input is 5 Volt and and max output is 3.3v it suggests that there is also a buck converter on the chip.
