BQ27426: shutdown many times

Part Number: BQ27426
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ27Z561, BQ76942

Dear experts

My customer is using the BQ27426 with a small battery, so they want to shut down the BQ27426 when the device is not using. And there have a pin control GPOUT to weak up the device. So we have two confuse

1. if GPOUT connect to the SDA pin, but this pin have a pull up, maybe there have a problem is that the device can not into the shut down mode?

2. if customer need shutdown the device many times, will there have some problem? or if there have some guidance after weak up to make sure the accuracy?

Thanks

Jun Shen

  • Hi Jason,

Yes, if GPOUT is pulled up, the device can not enter into shutdown mode.

Considering the BQ76942 is a ROM based guage, and all RAM-based volatile data would lost when enter into shutdown mode, which need to be programed again when powerd up, so we don't recommend BQ76942 to be used if customer need to shutdwn for many times. The flash-based guage - BQ27Z561 can be a good choice for this application.

    Sincerely,

    Jayden
