BQ40Z80: Chemistry programming failed(Error code=1)

Part Number: BQ40Z80
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: GPCRB, EV2400, BQSTUDIO,

TI support,

I've faced the issue that Chemistry programming failed(Error code=1) has occurred when writing chemdat12_ID**** from GPCRB tool.

I reinstalled the latest version of bqStudio the other day to avoid crashing when I program chemdat12_ID**** through EV2400

I also updated the firmware since I was not able to select the device I used before.

Would you help me out of this situation?

  • Hello Kunny,

Are you able to program other chemistry IDs without the error, is it only for the chemistry you had characterized you get the error?

    Sincerely,

    Wyatt Keller

  • Hi, Wyatt

I can write the original chemID provided from bqStudio with no error as I used to.

I think the chemdat12_ID**** from GPCRB tool only cause this issue so far.

Do I have to upgrade the firmware of EV2400?

    (current version 0.18)

    Regard,

    Kunny

  • Hello Kunny,

Yes, It is best to upgrade the firmware of EV2400

  • Hi Shirish,

I tried to upgrade the firmware of EV2400 from 0.18 to 0.28, it has failed.

I got the error message as attached below.

With -s option, it went wrong, as well.

The bqStudio can communicate with the device of BQ40Z80 through EV2400 connected to PC via USB.

    What should I do?

I'm concerned about the message "No Free EV2400s Detected."  Do I try to use the different or wrong firmware updater?

    Regards,

    Kunny

  • Hi Shirish,

I've found out the reason I couldn't update the firmware.

The bqStudio remained simply running during update.

After terminating the bqStudio's communication, it has successfully finished(version 0.28).

However, the message of "error code=1" still appears when writing chemdat12_ID****.

What else should I do?  Can I change some parameters manually according to chemdat12_ID****?

What will happen if pushing the RESET button on EV2400?

    Regards,

    Kunny

  • Hello Kunny,

The error description shows that bqStudio lost communication with the EV2400. You can push the reset button on EV2400 and try. This button is equivalent to a power cycle of EV2400.

Alternatively, try turning off dashboard Auto refresh. I will check with the team if there can be other causes.

  • Hi Shirish,

    Thank you for your reply.

I tried and tried all I can do, but in vain, including pushing RESET button, turning off Auto refresh mode.

Everything seems to work well except for writing GPCRB file.

I use the mature Windows7 of PC, but it's hard to think this is the factor, because bqStudio and EV2400 communicates properly.

I have a hunch that there is something wrong with the format of chemdat12_ID**** created by GPCRB tool.

Hasn't the GPCRB tool via internet recently upgraded with silent change?  or some bugs hidden?

My chemID getting from learning cycle does not support Turbo Mode 2, is that the reason?

As I mentioned above, could I manually fix or edit the chemdat12_ID****  file to fit the bqStudio system until all clear?

I'm in a hurry on my mission.

Hope I have good news. I really need all of your TI expert teams.

    Regards,

    Kunny

  • Hi Kunny,

I notice in your screenshot that you are using an old verison of chemistry. There was  a change in chemistry ID assignment and that could be the cause.

    Please update your chemistry from

In case you have not done this before, then instructions are provided in the link.

Let me know if that helps.

  • Hi Shirish,

I updated the chemID(latest version 863), nothing has changed, though.

I have a question regarding a change in chemID assignment.

I've used the best matched chemID of 2892 for my battery,

Does this mean the number of "2892" has changed?

Do I have to get the newest chemID again for my battery, then take the other steps like learning cycle and GPCRB?

    Regards,

    Kunny

  • I am not seeing chem ID 2892. Try to resubmit the files to GPC and get an updated ChemID match, then resubmit with new ChemiID to get the GPCRb file.

  • My chemID getting from learning cycle does not support Turbo Mode 2.

So, we are not seeing chemID 2892 unless checking "Include chemistry IDs that do not support Turbo Mode 2" on bqStudio.

Doesn't the chemID without Turbo Mode 2 support  accept GPCRB data to add?

    Regard,

    Kunny

  • Hello Kunny,

Thanks for the clarification. GPCRB progamming is expected to work for chemistries that do not support Turbo mode 2.

Have you tried resubmitting to get the file again just in case the file is corrupted(unlikely but lets positively rule it out)
