BQ24295: Application of PMID along with VSYS pin

Hi,

I am using "BQ24295RGER" as a dual output battery charger. I am using VSYS pin along with an external boost converter as output-1(5V/3A).

For output-2 (5V/1A), I plan to use PMID pin directly.

My query is, can I use "BQ24295RGER" chip as described above ?

If YES, what if the device on output-2 demands current over 1.5A, will the chip limit current automatically on PMID pin ?

Hi,

In theory yes.

1. When the battery supports 5V PMID output in boost mode, there's no current limit for over 1.5A by the device.

2. There is PMID voltage drop when supply changing from VBUS to battery. Adding a Schottky from SYS to PMID prevents droop below VBAT. Please refer to https://e2e.ti.com/support/power-management/f/196/p/712374/2626902#2626902 for the details.
