DRA829V: PMIC for DRA829 - Difference between PTPS65941310RWERQ1 and PTPS659413F0RWERQ1

Part Number: DRA829V
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: J721EXSOMXEVM, DRA829

Hello Team,

We are using PTPS659413F0RWERQ1 and PTPS659411F0RWERQ1 as PMIC for one of our board design with DRA829V processor.

We could see that the product is in preproduction and we have ordered samples for our prototype. We have designed the circuit as per J721EXSOMXEVM. But we saw the part number used in EVM is PTPS65941310RWERQ1, PTPS65941111RWERQ1 and the available preproduction parts are PTPS659413F0RWERQ1, PTPS659411F0RWERQ1.

1. What will be the difference between both the devices.?

2. We are using same setting for PMIC and circuits as per the DRA829 EVM only. Will the register settings in NVM be changed ?

Second thing,

I understood from Chris that The PTPS659413F0RWERQ1 and PTPS65941310RWERQ1 have limitations related to the peak power requirements for the DRA829V - Since there is no samples available for RTM devices(TPS65941212RWERQ1 and TPS65941111RWERQ1) we are forced to use PTPS659413F0RWERQ1 and PTPS65941310RWERQ1 for our design. Kindly guide us on the same.

We need to build the prototype by this month and it would be too late if we are awaiting for the samples for released Parts. Else could you please provide some early samples for evaluation wrt TPS65941111RWERQ1 and TPS65941212RWERQ1, so that we can migrate now itself to 3 phase design.

Thanks and Regards,

Arun M

  • Different PMIC part numbers indicated different NVM programming.  You should not be replacing PMIC part numbers unless it is clear the differences are understand, and you have confirmed it will work with your board design.  As stated in the DRA829 EVM schematic, that power solution does have limitations on the MPU power rails.  (EVM PMIC part numbers: PTPS65941310RWERQ1, PTPS65941111RWERQ1)

It is recommended to migrate to a solution that uses 3-phase SMPS for the MPU rail.  Note this does impact the PCB design, as the PMIC power rails are connected in a slightly different configuration.  These PMIC part numbers are TPS65941213RWERQ1, TPS65941111RWERQ1)

I'm not clear on the other PMIC part numbers listed, will need to loop in members of PMIC team to help.
