DRA829V: PMIC-A 3 Phase and 2 Phase configuration

Hello Team,

We are using DRA829 for one of our application with both options of 2 phase and 3 phase configuration for PMIC-A as shown in the EVM reference design. We could see that a separate buck is used for DDR 1V1 voltage in 3 phase configuration with Enable for the buck provided from PMIC-B while in 2 Ph configuration PMIC-A itself provides 1V1 supply for the DDR using buck 4.

Could you please confirm whether the power sequencing will be maintained in both the cases or configuration

1. PMIC- A providing the 1V1 for DDR

2. Separate Buck for 1V1 and is enabled by using PMIC-B GPIO-3

  • What is the purpose of supporting both PMIC solutions?  It is recommended to support only the 3PH solution.  Attempting to support both will complicate the design, and will like decrease in the quality of power distribution (as power will not be optimally routed on PCB.)  Yes - PMIC ensure proper power sequencing, including external regulator for DDR.  A signal from PMIC (REGEN) is used to enable/disable external regulators at proper time(s).

    As of now, we are not getting the released samples for the 3 Phase configuration PMIC and we are having only the preproduction part PTPS659413F0RWERQ1 and PTPS659411F0RWERQ1. So we have given provision for both options.

    Yes, we can use only 3PH solution, seems there is no samples available for TPS65941111RWERQ1 and TPS65941212RWERQ1. That is why we are forced to do in both the configuration.
