TMDSIDK437X: Program Load and Reset

Hello,

I am looking to interface with a Tamagawa encoder using this setup: https://www.ti.com/tool/TIDEP-0101#1

I have the example program compiled, and a working debug session by first connecting to the CortexA9 target and then loading the ".out" file in the release folder. Everything works with Tera Term as shown in the example.

Now, what if I want to do this without debugging? I would like to be able to load the program onto the board and reset it anytime much like the MSP boards or an Arduino or be able to reset it by cycling power. Is there a way to load the program onto the board and have it automatically start and run on power up? I am not experienced with these boards or processors.

Hi Tyler,

I am not sure what are you looking for?

Are you looking to load the program via JTAG? Sorry, I am not familiar on MSP board or Arduino behavior to map to your expectation. Can you please provide some details here? I can route the question to appropriate team after that.

Yea I'd just like to load the program onto the board. Right now I believe I'm connected using the XDS100v2 USB Debug Probe. I know there is an SD card slot, would I need to put the program onto that? Or is there some memory I could load the program onto. I would like the program to restart after a power cycle or if the reset button is pressed. As of now I can only get it to work if I start up a debug session.

Tyler,

Yes, you can boot load the application from flash. This would require you to setup the boot mode pins correctly and program a secondary bootloader and the Tamagawa application to the flash.

The TI SDK provides a reference secondary bootloader that we use to test application booting from flash. The steps to create boot images and llashing the AM437x has been described here:

Thanks I got it working! After reading through what you sent it looks like for the board I have the only boot options are MMCSD and QSPI.

For other people looking at this, all I had to do to get this working was copy the file named "bootloader_boot_mmcsd_a9host_release_ti.bin" from the folder where the PDK component is "pdk_am437x_1_0_17\packages\ti\starterware\binary\bootloader\bin\am43xx-evm\gcc" and put it on an SD card and name it MLO. Then copy the "app" file located in the release folder of your project to the SD card as well. I was up and running after that.
