OPP's and temperature range

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: OMAP3530

Hello, I'm currently evaluating which CPU to use for a new design.

I've been looking at the OMAP3530 as a possible candidate and I have some questions about issues that are not clear in the datasheet. My design requires industrial temperature range. Acorrding to the datasheet OPP5&OPP6 are not supported for industrial temp. range but then there is the following comment:

"*If an extended temperature device is operated such that Tj never exceeds 90C (-40°C £Tj £ 90°C) then the OPP POH limits for commercial devices indicated above apply."

This leaves me somewhat confused. So what I want to know is this - if I use the OMAP3530DCUSA and make sure that my design does not go above Tj>90C can I use OPP5? I also see the 720MHz Cortex is never offered for devices with extended temp. range. Is this due to the fact that OPP6 isn't supported for temp. range above 90C? If I make sure my design doesn't go above Tj above 90C does TI offer any product that can work at 720MHz?

Looking forward to hear from you,

 Elad

  • OPP5 can only be used when Tj<90C.  That does not mean that the part cannot run at higher temp in a lower operating mode.  However, as long as part is in OPP5, Tj must be kept below 90C.

TI does not offer a version of OMAP3530 that supports 720MHz below 0C.  720MHz(OPP6) is only supported from 0-90C in *72 parts.  Extended temp parts are only tested at 600MHz and 720MHz performance cannot be guaranteed.
