AM3358: Updating Splash screen progress bar in AM3358

Hello team,

I have been using a custom board using AM3358 and I wanted to update the splash screen progress bar.

I have already raised a ticket in the past and that time I was told that it will be available in the next release.I have recently downloaded latest SDK PROCESSOR-SDK-LINUX-AM335X 07.03.00.005

Kindly let me know how do I update my splash screen progress bar.?

Hi Mad_hu,

Are you able to see the splash screen with 7.03 release? I am internally checking if it is possible to change the status bar and I will get back to you by the end of this week.

Hello Krunal,
I didnt load my boards with the latest release i.e 7.03. Before loading I wanted to know about this progress bar update.

I have checked and psplash-systemd is added in the latest sdk and the progress bar is updating. How do we change the image in the latest sdk . There was no arm-linux-gnueabihf-gcc compier in the latest sdk . Should we use arm-none-linux-gnueabihf-gcc.

In that case , it is throwing errors. Is there any change in the build of splash in latest SDK i.e. 07.03.00.005.

Hello Mad_hu,

I would recommend you to check with the community on splash build instructions. The systemd support was added by the community on the Dunfell branch: https://lists.yoctoproject.org/g/yocto/message/49201

I couldn't find any proper document available for the integration of systemd with psplash.

I have tried my own ways and I could add my own custom image in the splash screen, but couldn't update the progress bar.

I have seen that there are some #if conditions(pre-processing) to invoke data exchange between psplash-deafult and psplash-systemd. I couldn't invoke using the #if conditions(pre-processing) and tried invoking them directly without any conditions.

I failed because of some library include issues.

I wanted Texas Instruments help in this as Texas Instruments have successfully implemented the same in their latest SDK. I could see ti logo instead of poky image and progress bar update is happening with data from systemd.

Kindly help me in doing the same with my custom image. Kindly let me know the procedure.

Hello,

Here are the steps that I took to change the boot logo:

1. Clone the arago repo: git clone git://arago-project.org/git/projects/oe-layersetup.git tisdk
2. cd tisdk
3. Fetch the sources: ./oe-layertool-setup.sh -f configs/arago-dunfell-config.txt
4. cd build and . conf/setenv
5. Set toolchain: export TOOLCHAIN_PATH_ARMV7=$HOME/gcc-arm-9.2-2019.12-x86_64-arm-none-linux-gnueabihf
6. MACHINE=am335x-evm bitbake psplash
7. Upon successful build, go to directory "tisdk/build/arago-tmp-external-arm-glibc/work/armv7at2hf-neon-linux-gnueabi/psplash/0.1+gitAUTOINC+0a902f7cd8-r15". TI logo image is called "psplash-poky-img.h" and it is inherited from "tisdk/sources/meta-arago/meta-arago-distro/recipes-core/psplash/psplash_git.bbappend". If you like, you can remove the bbappend before you run the bitbake command and it will default to arago logo.
8. On my setup, I ran the following command "./git/make-image-header.sh ./git/base-images/psplash-poky.png psplash-poky-img" to generate new poky image
9. Re-compile project using following command "MACHINE=am335x-evm bitbake psplash -c compile -f" and "MACHINE=am335x-evm bitbake psplash -c package -f"
10. "tisdk/build/arago-tmp-external-arm-glibc/work/armv7at2hf-neon-linux-gnueabi/psplash/0.1+gitAUTOINC+0a902f7cd8-r15/build" contains new psplash binary that you can use to test

Please keep in mind that TI did not create the above yocto recipe and psplash code. We simply inherited open source projects and if you need more assistance please reach out to the community.
