DRA821U: Question of the independence between MCU domain and main domain

Part Number: DRA821U

How to ensure the independence between MCU domain and main domain,  if  R5F's code of MCU domain  running  in DRAM (since SRAM of MCU domain is too small for our application, it must be loaded to DRAM from external norflash). The question is (a) if any fault happened in DDR controller ,both MCU domain and Main domain are affected . (b) if any fault happened in main domain that resulting in main domain reset . the DDR controller is affected and than MCU main cannot run correctly since the code in DDR cannot access correctly

  • Hi,

If you are doing cross domain accesses in terms of using other domain's memory then an issue with MAIN will hamper MCU domain performance. If you want to use MCU domain in isolation then you need to only use resources constrained to MCU domain. In case memory of on chip ram is less, you may go ahead and try to run the application in XIP from the nor flash which is there in the same domain.

Let me know if you need more information here, I will then need to check with the internal teams on this.

  • Thank you. As we know  TDA821 is targeted for for automotive gateway, vehicle compute systems, V2V and V2X. I just see the system safety concept example of central gateway but couldn't see the vehicle compute systems example. So can TI give us a safety concept example usage of vehicle compute system? or How TI consider this problem we encountered if used as a vehicle compute system(e.g. vehicle compute system contains gateway, power train, body control and so on).

  • Hi,

I will pass this question on to our safety expert for their inputs.

  • Hi,

TI safety collateral is available under NDA, which makes conversations on public forums difficult.  Could you please reach out to your local FAE to continue this conversation.

    Thanks,
