AM6412: Linux: SDK 7.3.1.6 sysfw.itb and sysfw build

Part Number: AM6412

Hi,

I am trying to create the SDCARD for an AM64xx GP EVM from prebuilts, and cannot find the sysfw.itb. It is not in the board-support directory.

Additionally looking for quick way to build it from source and there are also no OOB top level makefiles for this, as we typically had for previous SDKs.

Can you point me in the right direction?

Thanks!

  • Hi Gunter,

The sysfw.itb is not needed anymore. We will update the Processor SDK documentation accordingly. Also for your reference, a Linux SD card can be created from the WIC image using balenaEtcher. It's pretty straightforward. Pleaser refer to the AM64x SK quick start guide for more information about SD card creation, which applies to the GP EVM as well.

To build the SDK from source, we recommend to use Yocto. Please follow instructions in this thread to build 7.3.1 SDK. Those instructions are part of the Processor SDK documentation, section Building the SDK, which will be updated soon.

    Regards,

    Jianzhong

  • Hi Jianzhong,

Thanks. Could you point me to exact documentation about why SYSFW is not used anymore on the AM64xx, and where the SYSFW functionality has exactly moved to? I am looking at the u-boot UG SDK docs and the boot flow and need to know how SYSFW requests are being handled and where.

Secondly, the reason I am bringing up the full SDCARD creation script (from pre-builts) and top-level makefiles, is to high-light Linux-centric usability and OOB, similar to previous SDKs. The TIREX docs are Windows centric, but most AM64xx Linux based designs assume that the developers are all using Linux Hosts.

I think we need those items back.

BTW, I have run the Yocto build and extracted sysfw.itb from that, and the SDCARD boots, but will now remove sysfw.itb and see if it still boots.

While Yocto is definitely important for builds, typically developers on kernel, u-boot build more frequently with direct makefiles.

    Thanks!

  • Hi Jiangzhong,

you are correct, the EVM boots without the sysfw.itb.

Now I really would need to know where for the AM64xx the SYSFW PM and RM has moved to and how the bootflow exactly looks like for the GP EVM.

  • Hi Gunter,
Different from AM65x, where sysfw.itb is separate from tiboot3.bin, sysfw.itb is builit into tiboot3.bin on AM64x.

Upon completion of the r5 build step of "make ARCH=arm CROSS_COMPILE=arm-linux-gnueabihf- O=./r5",

    export R5_SPL_FILE="$PWD/r5/spl/u-boot-spl.bin"
    cd ../k3-image-gen
    make ARCH=arm CROSS_COMPILE=aarch64-linux-gnu- SOC=am64x SBL="$R5_SPL_FILE"

    Best,
