DRA718: configure display to switch from Landscape mode to Portrait mode

Hello TI team,

We are using custom Dra71x processor on our custom board with 6.00.00.03 SDK of Dra7xx EVM.

We require 2 HDMI ports, but this processor supports only one HDMI.

So we have incorporated LT8168EX IC which converts the RBG to HDMI format and inputs to the HDMI connector to the display

This LT8618EX is as i2c slave.

Currently we are able to get the image on the 5.5 inch touch Display but in the Landscape mode, but we required it to be in the Portrait Mode

Can you pls guide us in DSS where we can change the settings so that we can configure to the desired mode.

Hi,

It really depends on your LCD. Does the LCD support portrait mode, ie instead of 1920x1080 resolution, does it support 1080x1920 resolution? If it does, DSS venc can be reprogrammed to support this resolution.

Please also note this will require your entire SW chain to run at resolution lets say, 1080x1920.

There is a mistake in my understanding in the question i have posted.

We are currently getting a Portrait video on a Portrait display, but we need Landscape video on a Portrait display.

Yes, the LCD supports it as we can see that it can be set in Raspberry PI.

Can you pls help us with the file name/API to reprogram this?

Hi Prasad,

What do you mean Landscape video on portrait display? If your LCD is 720x1280, you could have resolution as 720x480 to have Landscape effect. But in this case, 800 lines (1280-480) will be blank or displaying background color.

Hello Brijesh,

Basically what we need is video flip, we are able to flip it with Gstreamer clockwise, but we want to set it on DSS. We need to rotate the video on the display

I have attached the expected image and real images as below

But gstreamer is already rotating the image. Then where do you want to rotate the image?

DSS internally does not support rotation. ie DSS cannot rotate 1280x720 image and display it as 720x1280. If you want to display 720x1280 image, you need to provide image of 720x1280 resolution.

Hello Brijesh,

We dont want to rotate the image with Gstreamer, instead we want to configure it in DSS.

Below are the Video mode settings of the driver

 .hactive = 1080,
 .hsync_len = 4,
 .hfront_porch = 15,
 .hback_porch = 50,
 
 .vactive = 1920,
 .vsync_len = 2,
 .vfront_porch = 8,
 .vback_porch = 6,
 
 .pixelclock = 135580000,

 .flags = DISPLAY_FLAGS_HSYNC_HIGH | DISPLAY_FLAGS_VSYNC_HIGH, //Reg 0x78

Do you mean we need to Swap the hactive and vactive values?

Also in the TRM Page 2075, we see that rotation can be done with TILER. Does it helps us?

We want to configure the video as per the section below section in TRM

11.2.4.7 DISPC Rotation and Mirroring

What are the settings that we need to do for this?

Prasad,

Tiler is not supported in vision sdk, yes, it can do rotation, but you would have to add support for it in the SDK.

You could even interchange horizontal and vertical timings if the LCD supports it.

Yeah, we tried interchanging timings of the LCD as well but no luck.

Do you suggest any other alternatives? except rotating via software?
