Part Number: AM6442
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TUSB320
Is the power adaptor for this board strictly must be 5V 3A? if a 5V 2A or 5V 4.5A workable also? customer got this board for several days already, still can't power up.

Hi Tony,
The AM64 SK is powered through a USB Type-C Connector. Under peak current, the U44 LP8733xx can draw upto 3A.
Refer to https://www.ti.com/lit/ug/spruiy9a/spruiy9a.pdf
• Recommended Power Supplies:
– CUI Inc. 5V 15W AC/DC External Wall Mount Adapter - SWC15-S5-NB
– GlobalTek Inc. 5V 15W AC/DC External Mount Wall Adapter - WR9QA3000USBC3MNA-CIMR6B
– Qualtek USB 2.0 Cable C Male to C Male 3.28' Shielded Cable for powering the boards through a laptop Type-C port - 3021091-01M
The USB type-C controller on the board will detect the current mode capabilities of the power supply and Type-C cable.
First it defaults to 500mA, but te power supply and cable need to support higher level of current upto high current at 3A.
Refer to documentation for U41 TUSB320
Specifically 7.2.2 Type-C Current Mode in https://www.ti.com/lit/ds/symlink/tusb320.pdf

Tony,
Refer also to 3 Important Usage Notes in https://www.ti.com/lit/ug/spruiy9a/spruiy9a.pdf
The AM64x Starter Kit shall be powered through the USB-C port (no data or display alt-mode support)/
The USB-C power controller on the AM64x Starter Kit is expecting a negotiation sequence with the power-
delivery source, and requires a source capable of supplying 5V at 3A. A red LED on the bottom of the AM64x
Starter Kit will illuminate if the power-delivery source cannot meet these requirements.
Older and low-cost mains voltage to 5VDC USB type-A bricks intended for powering and/ or charging consumer
electronics may not have the capability to properly complete the negotiation sequence with the USB-C power
controller on the AM64x Starter Kit, and will prevent the EVM from powering on. Guidelines on recommended
supplies are given in the Power-On/Off Procedures section.

Mark

Maybe those brand can be purchased from Amazon, but I did not find it on jd.com

The power solution is a bit complex for a low cost start kit, the board cost decreased, but the external power adaptor cost increased. if just a power plug to input 5V like before would be more convenient.
Tony,
One of the recommended supplies for the AM64x SK is the official RPI type-C power adapter. These are much lower cost than the traditional barrel-style power bricks we used in the past. In the US, we can purchase from digikey for about $8 + shipping. www.digikey.com/.../10258759
