Questions Regarding High Density MMC Support on TMS320C5515 and CSL

Hi,

The product we're developing is going to use an 8GB eMMC that adheres to the v4.41 MMC Spec with the TMS320C5515.

I have two questions related to this:

1. Is the TMS320C5515 bootloader capable of booting from a High Density MMC, specifically Samsung moviNAND eMMC 8GB?

I'm asking since the C5515 MMC Reference Guide states it only supports v3.31 MMC Spec (i.e, MMCs that are <= 2GB).

Furthermore, the C5515 Bootloader document does not state to which MMC spec it adheres.

2. The C55x CSL comes with an MMC driver that does not support High Density MMC (e.g., all the initialization is done according to the pre-v4.2 MMC spec, which is correct only for <= 2GB MMC cards).Is there any available driver for High Density MMC?

Hi,

C5155 internal BOOT ROM code does not support eMMC boot. However you can create 2nd stage boot process.

Hi Hyun,

Thanks for your answer. By 2nd boot process, I assume you mean that some other type of flash memory must to be available with the eMMC driver code?

Do you have any information regarding my second question in the original post?

Two more question:

1. Is there going to be any version of TMS320C5515 with a bootloader that supports booting from an eMMC/MMC-High Density? If so, what would be its part number?

2. In current TMS320C5515 implementation, is there any HW limitation/incompatibility to read/write to an eMMC/MMC-High Density (assuming I write my own driver)?

1. --> No, but the next generation device will support it.

2. --> There is no limitation on eMMC/MMC-High Density boot on C5515. We know one of our customer have done this.

Hi, Thanks again. Just to verify, on your second answer you said "There is no limitation on eMMC/MMC-High Density boot on C5515". Is that true for general read/write operations (non-boot related) from/to eMMC/MMC-High Density ? Regards, Shahar
