TDA4VM: DDRSS Register Configuration Tool (v0.6.0) Compatibility with Prior SDKs (Before 8.0)

Part Number: TDA4VM

Question: Is version 0.6.0 of the Jacinto7 DDRSS Register Configuration Tool compatible with older SDKs (prior to SDK8.0)?

Answer: Yes, version 0.6.0 of the Jacinto7 DDRSS Register Configuration Tool is backwards compatible with older SDKs. However, version 0.6.0 or later must be used with SDK8.0 or later. This requirement is because a new parameter was introduced in v0.6.0 of the XLS tool that is utilized by the DDR driver included in SDK8.0. If using version 0.6.0 of the tool with older SDKs, the new parameter will not be used. If using version 0.5.0 or earlier of the tool with SDK8.0, then the source code will not compile due to the missing parameter in the output file of the tool.

Note: Default inputs may change between revisions of the Jacinto7 DDRSS Register Configuration tool. If experiencing issues where v0.6.0 does not work on a custom PCB design using TDA4VM and v0.5.0 of the tool does work, please first verify that the inputs into the tool match exactly. If still experiencing issues, please contact TI for further assistance.

  • Question: Because the new parameter introduced in v0.6.0 will be unused in SDK7.x, we should use v0.5.0 of the tool for SDK7.x?

Answer: No; version 0.6.0 is still recommended for SDK7.x. There are changes in v0.6.0 compared to v0.5.0 which could benefit the system. For instance, version 0.6.0 addresses errata i2159, which v0.5.0 does not support. The previous answer was provided to indicate that version 0.6.0 is required for SDK8.0 due to the inclusion of a (one) new parameter.
