TMDX654IDKEVM: SoC to SoC communication other PCIe

Part Number: TMDX654IDKEVM

PDK: Processor SDK RTOS 06_03_00_106

Dear TI Support Team,

I'm looking into connecting two TMDX654IDKEVM via PCIe. According to the “Processor SDK RTOS 06_03_00_106” (6.1. CSL — Processor SDK RTOS Documentation) in order to connect them together, I need a special MODIFIED male-to-male crossover PCIe x1 or x4 cable.

Unfortunately, the link to the MODIFIED cable in the PDK documentation is broken.

Could you please repair the link or provide here a detailed description of the cable that is required to connect the two boards?

Is it possible to buy this cable directly from TI and if so, what is its part number?

I would be grateful for any information on where to buy the required cable or how to make it by myself.

Thank you in advance!

Kind Regards,

Yury.

  • Dear TI Support Team,

I would like to comment myself in order to ask some additional questions.

In other threads of this forum I have found a reference to cables that can be used to connect two EVMs together:

From the manufacturer adexelec (adexelec.com) which are not currently available:

    • PE-FLEX1-G2-MMCX-12-TI1: 1-lane cross cable
    • PE-FLEX4-G2-MMCX-12-TI1: 4-lane cross cable

From the manufacturer samtec (samtec.com) which is available for order:

Unfortunately, the samtec website does not provide any additional information about this cable (is it a “one-to-one” or crossover cable). I would like to ask if you have experience connecting two EVMs with this cable, can it be used "out of the box" or does it also need to be modified? If yes, could you please provide detailed instructions (or schematic) on how to make modifications?

    Kind Regards,

    Yury

  • Yury,

Sorry for the delayed response. Not sure if you already found an alternative cable. If you Adex cable is not restocked, you may use other brands, as long as:

    1. Cable should be capable of PCIe Gen 3 speed at 5Gbps, of minimium length as needed.

    2. Reason we remove power, clock and reset signals - the two EVMs on both ends have their own refclk, power and reset control. To make the example simple and easy to follow, software assume the EP will be up first then the RC, and no reset signal is needed from RC to EP.

Please reply back if you have additional questions.
