AM5716: TPS65916 driver support AM5716

Part Number: AM5716
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS659037, TPS65916,

From the table from TPS659037 user guide to power AM57...., can use TPS65916 to power AM571x,

Question:

#1. Is there TPS65916 software driver in current Processor SDK to support AM5716? I did not find TPS65916 information in any AM57xx dts file.

#2. If not, will TI help to provide driver, configuration file? or need customer implement it by themselves?

#3. What is TI's official suggestion on AM57xx PMIC selection? counting in cost and software effort.

  • #1: Do you see '917 in the Processor SDK?  The AVS config is the same for that component as the '917.

    #2: If the design follows the EVM then it should just work.  If any issues TI can support on e2e as always.

    #3: The appnote covers the recommended PMIC selection.

    Regards,
    Kyle

  • Kyle,

    I saw arch/arm/boot/dts/dra72-evm-tps65917.dtsi.

    another question:  I did not a source file named tps65917*.c, does the driver share with another source file?

    also did not find tps659037* or tps659038*.c source file.

    seems this is the driver source file: driver/regulator/palmas-regulator.c

  • Tony,

    palmas-regulator.c caters to TPS65917, TPS659038.

    Checkout the list below:

    static const struct of_device_id of_palmas_match_tbl[] = {
            {
                    .compatible = "ti,palmas-pmic",
                    .data = &palmas_ddata,
            },
            {
                    .compatible = "ti,twl6035-pmic",
                    .data = &palmas_ddata,
            },
            {
                    .compatible = "ti,twl6036-pmic",
                    .data = &palmas_ddata,
            },
            {
                    .compatible = "ti,twl6037-pmic",
                    .data = &palmas_ddata,
            },
            {
                    .compatible = "ti,tps65913-pmic",
                    .data = &palmas_ddata,
            },
            {
                    .compatible = "ti,tps65914-pmic",
                    .data = &palmas_ddata,
            },
            {
                    .compatible = "ti,tps80036-pmic",
                    .data = &palmas_ddata,
            },
            {
                    .compatible = "ti,tps659038-pmic",
                    .data = &palmas_ddata,
            },
             {
                    .compatible = "ti,tps65917-pmic",
                    .data = &tps65917_ddata,
            },
            { /* end */ }
    };

    If TPS65916 & TPS65917 are register compatible then for sure we can use the

    driver/regulator/palmas-regulator.c

    The DT layout for tps65917 for reference can be seen here:
