CCSTUDIO: Work space setup in CSStudio -> opening files

Part Number: CCSTUDIO

Hello,

Using Code Composer Studio for an MSP430, my tiles i got messed up so I had to rearrange and reopen all the windows in the IDE. No problem. I was able to restore it to how I like. I have the project explorer window on the left with the active editor window on the right with resource explorer and open c files. But whenever I double click to open a file (.c or whatever) in the project explorer window if opens in the same panel. If I open a file from the "problems" windows on the bottom (off of a warning or error), it will open in the desired editor panel.

How can I change the panel behavior to have the files from the project explorer window open into my working area when I double click them?

It used to work that way, but stopped for whatever reason.

Thanks in advance for any help.
  • Hi Thomas,

First, make sure you have the editor 'perspective' selected.

It's hard to tell exactly what you are seeing and what is not working, so I would suggest first checking out the CCS user guide and "how to" articles.

If you still can't it to work for you, what version of CCS are you using?

  • Yes, the perspective in "Editor".   Version is 10.4.0.00006

I will try to insert screenshots to show what I am talking about.

First, here is my working layout

Now this is after I double click a .c file in the project explorer

After the file is open I can drag it over to the window with the resource explorer.   But that gets cumbersome when I am looking through several files of a project with lots of source .c and .h files.

  • Hi Thomas,

I think I see what you are saying.

Unfortunately, when clicking on a project in the resource explorer, it will open the files/project in CCS.  You can always click on the tab in any window and move to another window.

Example, I have main.c tab in same window as my project explorer in the top screen shot.   I left mouse click on the main.c tab and drag to the window with all my other tabs in the bottom screen shot.  Is this what you asking?

  • I am aware I can drag the file over.

I have 2 setups.   one on a laptop so I can work when not at the office and one on a desktop.

On my laptop when I double click the file in project explorer, it opens immediately in the "work area" on the right.   not in the project explorer tab itself.   This makes the work flow easier and more pleasant as I don't have to constantly drag files around.

But on the desktop, files open inside the project explore window as I and you show in the screenshots.  I was hoping their is just some setting somewhere, I am missing to tell the IDE what window to open files into.

  • Thomas,

I'm not aware of any setting that controls this.  I'll have to research this.

  • Hi Thomas,

I found this that seems it might address your issue.
