AM/DM3715 how maximum can support NAND Flash,

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AM3715, AM3517

I  want to design  a  AM3715/DM37  PCB,what  maximum NAND FLASH can the AM3715/DM37  support ? I want to connect the  NAND Flash through  the  GPMC ,is it right ?

I have some NAND Flash :   MT29F64G08CBCABH1-12:64Gb,x8 BUS WIDTH
K9LCG08U1M-LCB00:64Gb,x8 BUS WIDTH        can  I  connect  them  to the AM3715/DM37  . I would  flash  the WINCE  operating system to the NAND Flash, and let it  boot from  NAND Flash.

  • Jack:

Is this an MLC device (multi-chip module).  I don't believe our NAND driver supports MLC.   ROM code uses mfgr id and device ID

and has a table that allows it to support different NAND geometries based on device ID.  What is the device ID for your NAND device?

  • I  want to use this  chip --  AM3715CUS100  to design  a  industry   PDA. and  how  much  the  maxmium  NAND Flash can support ,if it can support  32Gb 's NAND Flash?

  • Hello Jack,

We don't support MLCs with the AM37x.  If you need 32Gb you would be better off using an eMMC.  For that large of capacity in NAND you will most likely need more ECC than we currently offer in the AM37x, so you would be able to get larger capicity with eMMC and you wouldn't have to worry about the ECC because the ECC is handled by the controller in the eMMC.

  • Hello

What ist the maximum addressable NAND flash size (x16) on GPMC with CS0 on the  AM3715CUS?

We want to implement the following variants: 1/2/4/8Gb with one NAND packacke type (63-VFBGA)!

    Best regards,

    FS

  • Hello FS,

since NAND is not memory mapped, you are not bounded by the processor.  The limit will be with how large a density the memory manufacturer will have in an SLC.   You should be able to find all of the densities that you listed from most manufacturers so you will be ok.

  • Hi Jeff,

I have same query in context of eMMC - We are planning to use AM3517 [not AM37x ] - So my Question is does this controller AM35x supports eMMC ? If Yes - then will we be able to boot AM35x from eMMC keeping AM35x in MMC boot mode ?  Is there any driver or something available from TI for eMMC for WinCE 6.0 ?

Using eMMC is one of driving requirement to select TI processor in our design, Your prompt response will be helpful ?

Datasheet says it supports MMC but  Its no where specified that it supports eMMC.

    Thanks,

    Rizwan Hirani

  • Hi Jeff,

so 256Gb can be supported as well with no limitation from ECC?

    Thanks
