PROCESSOR-SDK-AM64X: load image + device tree from U-Boot prompt

Part Number: PROCESSOR-SDK-AM64X

Hi,
I'm at the U-Boot prompt and would like to load the linux image + device tree on the device via tftp.
Is there a way to find out where to load the image and the device tree to?
I also get an error from the cpsw ethernet slave (see my steps below)

=> setenv ipaddr 192.168.1.102
=> setenv serverip 192.168.1.101
=> tftpboot 0x82000000 Image

  • Hi Jonas,
I'm attaching a PDF on flashing/booting eMMC on AM64x GP EVM.
The section "3 Booting Linux via UART Using NFS" in the attached PDF describes loading kernel/dtb via TFTP
    Hope it is helpful.
    Best,
    -Hong

  • Thanks ,

I was able to shift over the Image and the device tree using NFS on my host machine.
However, the kernel does not boot successfully. Arago starts to boot, but stops in the emergency mode and asks for a password.
I clicked enter as Arago afaik doesn't have a password but it says login incorrect. Any thoughts on this issue?
Attached a screenshot as well if that helps.

  • Hi Jonas,
The issue seems related to rootfs.
Can we upload the full boot log as an attachment?
    Best,
    -Hong

  • Hi Hong,

You can find the full bot log here: https://pastebin.com/H757yc0R

    Best,
    Jonas

  • Hi Jonas,
Will you upload the log as an attachment in the e2e ticket instead?
The link was blocked when accessing it from TI network.
    Best,
    -Hong

You are in emergency mode. After logging in, type "journalctl -xb" to view
system logs, "systemctl reboot" to reboot, "systemctl default" or "exit"
    to boot into default mode.
    Give root password for maintenance
    (or press Control-D to continue):

  • Hi Jonas,
Thanks for uploading the full log file.
It seems kernel booting is ok, but something is abnormal when mounting rootfs...
I'm passing it to my colleague for guidance.
    Best,
    -Hong

  • Hi Jonas,

I use the exact tftp+NFS setup on all my EVMs for my daily work. I had the same emergency mode issue a few times in the past, but solved it very quickly so now I don't even remember what was the root cause...

Please follow the following steps to rebuild the NFS filesystem on your PC to see if this solves the issue.

    cd /tftp/
sudo -s # become root privilage for ALL the commands below
    rm -rf nfs_share
    mkdir nfs_share
    cd nfs_share/
    tar xvf <processor-sdk>/filesystem/tisdk-default-image-am64xx-evm.tar.xz

  • Hi everyone,

thanks for the suggestion. I followed your steps, but unfortunately the issue remained.
However, I just found the mistake myself. I was missing permissions.
    Resolved it with:

    sudo chown -R nobody:nogroup /tftp/nfs_share/
    sudo chmod 777 /tftp/nfs_share/

    Best,
    Jonas

  • Hi Jonas,

I suspect the permission is not the root cause. My NFS rootfs permission is

    dev@uda:~$ ls -ld ~/opt
    drwxrwxr-x 34 root root 4096 Nov 4 17:14 /home/lb/opt

What is the setting in your /etc/exports? Mine has

    /home/lb/opt 192.168.88.0/24(rw,no_root_squash,no_all_squash,sync,no_subtree_check)

  • I meant it is a permission issue, but using 777 probably is not the best solution.

  • Hi Bin,

    mine is: /tftp/nfs_share 192.168.178.0/24 (rw,sync,no_subtree_check)

    Jonas

  • Jonas,

    (rw,sync,no_subtree_check)

I just tried your config and I am unable to log in. So the issue is in the NFS config.

You can try to use my config so that you don't have to set the NFS folder permission to 777. 775 should be sufficient.
