TDA4VM: Thermal Threshold issue

Part Number: TDA4VM

The customer has the following 3 questions about the Temperature Monitoring Function (VTM) in the TDA4 Chip:

1. For thresholds for three types of alerts, is there a recommendation or reference for the TH0_VAL/TH 1_VAL/TH 2_VAL values in the automotive field?

2. As described in the data sheet and the manual, the maximum temperature limit is 125 degrees. Is it necessary to have 0-9 in the WKUP_VTM_MISC_CTRL2 sensing at 125 degrees? And is there a suggested value for TH0 for 16-25?

3. When the temperatures exceed the threshold, is there anything to be performed of the system?

a. What is high-temperature thermal management typically referred to, is it that the application layer directly logs an error without action?

b. What does hardware-voltage domain reset. mean? Dose it mean to reset a voltage domain, is this can be directly configured? If so, which chapter the customer can refer to?

Could you please help to check this?

Thanks!

  • Hi,

May I know is there any updates?

    Thanks!

  • 1. For thresholds for three types of alerts, is there a recommendation or reference for the TH0_VAL/TH 1_VAL/TH 2_VAL values in the automotive field?

This will be application dependent. The MAX alert(Leading to thermal shutdown) will be programmed to 123C. These intermediate
points can be chosen based on the application and the performance need.

As described in the data sheet and the manual, the maximum temperature limit is 125 degrees. Is it necessary to have 0-9 in the WKUP_VTM_MISC_CTRL2 sensing at 125 degrees? And is there a suggested value for TH0 for 16-25?

Leaving a 2 degree margin we would recommend 123C for max temperature & 105C for TH0 16-25. That will leave almost 18 degrees to cool.

    3. When the temperatures exceed the threshold, is there anything to be performed of the system?

Currently nothing performed for the intermediate thresholds. Max temperature action is to reset the system.

    a. What is high-temperature thermal management typically referred to, is it that the application layer directly logs an error without action?

As mentioned there is no thermal management in the SDK right now.

What does hardware-voltage domain reset. mean? Dose it mean to reset a voltage domain, is this can be directly configured? If so, which chapter the customer can refer to?

I will let our hardware expert comment on this.
