AM5728: What happens if the power to the processor is not removed and the processor does not boot

Part Number: AM5728
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS659037,

Hello, I am using the beagleboard X15 which has the AM5728 processor and the TPS659037 PMIC.  The beagleboard requires the PWR button to be pushed after it is powered up in order for the PMIC to power the processor. I need to remotely operate the board, so this is a hinderance. There is a workaround to short across a jumper (J5) so that the processor is automatically powered up after power is applied without the need for any manual interaction. A side effect of this board modification is that if the processor does not successfully boot, the PMIC will not power down and I have been told this can be an "issue" for the processor. Can anyone tell me what this issue is which I assume damages the hardware.
