PROCESSOR-SDK-AM64X: SK-AM64 PROC100E3 SWITCH 2 and 3

Part Number: PROCESSOR-SDK-AM64X

Hello,

I just purchased a AM64x SKEVM SK-AM64 (Evaluation Board).

The SW2 and 3 used to set the boot mode are different on the board silkscreen than the User's Guide AM64x SK EVM.

AM64x MCU+ SDK  08.00.00 - AM64x MCU+ SDK: Introduction

From the online documentation in EVM Setup, I was able to follow the Getting Started:

Setup UART Terminal - I was able to set the boot mode to uart (using the data from User's Guide AM64x SK EVM, page 19) and ran successfully the python script with the two commands.

Flash SOC Initialization Binary - here I got stuck at: Switch the EVM boot mode to OSPI mode as shown below...

I was trying to set boot mode to OSPI but I didn't get any message at boot as in the documentation:

Starting NULL Bootloader ...

DMSC Firmware Version 21.1.1--v2021.01a (Terrific Lla
DMSC Firmware revision 0x15
DMSC ABI revision 3.1

INFO: Bootloader_runCpu:151: CPU r5f1-0 is initialized to 800000000 Hz !!!

At this time, my guess is that the SW2 and SW3 are not documented correctly.

Thanks,

  • Hello Marius,

The SW2 and 3 used to set the boot mode are different on the board silkscreen than the User's Guide AM64x SK EVM.

Actually they are not different: SW3 has BMODE 0-7 while SW2 has BMODE 8-15. However, it is a little confusing.

Flash SOC Initialization Binary - here I got stuck at: Switch the EVM boot mode to OSPI mode as shown below...

I was trying to set boot mode to OSPI but I didn't get any message at boot as in the documentation:

This procedure is for the AM64x GP EVM. For the SK EVM, please try xSPI boot mode instead. Please refer to the procedure documented here.

  • Hello Jianzhong,

There is a mistake in the  "spruiy9a_User_Guide_AM64xx_Starter_Kit_EVN_Board.pdf", page 5 - see above.

Thank you for pointing me in the right direction for the AM64x SKEVM - it is difficult/impossible to figure out the difference when starting with this EVM.

I will install 07.03.00.19 and with the gel files try to initialize the DDR memory.

Is still this EVM recommended for Linux: Two months ago: "... the AM64x Starter Kit is mainly for Linux development at this stage,...".

    Regards,

    Marius Raducanu

  • Thanks for pointing out where the mistake is. Yes,  that is a documentation mistake on page 5. I'll forward this info to the EVM team.

    Yes, that's still the case.
