Hi,

We have right now a dsp application running on a C6748 in a battery powered handset

We are considering a pure tactile solution (smartphone like) for our new hmi.

can you tell me which processor family, if any, would be the best suited for that purpose?

We assume the best choice should be a dual (or more) core, one running android (arm I suppose) an the other (dsp) running our application.

Characteristics&constraints:

- Dsp current application runs on our propoer (very light) OS, but could be ported under RT-OS (or android) if necessary

- current Dsp application load: ~50% @375MHz

- Low power oriented (battery powered)

- Android processor should be powerfull enough for a quick response and fluent hmi apperance

- We have already considered the omapL138 but i wonder if the arm9 running at around 400MHz is good enough, furthermore it does not have any graphical coprocessor...

I think the OMAP-L137 or OMAP-L138 are going to be the suggestions for an ARM+DSP processor in our current portfolio.

The point is, according to the portfolio https://www.ti.com/microcontrollers-mcus-processors/processors/arm-based-processors/products.html#p2271=C674x%20DSP neither OMAP-L137 nore OMAP-L138 seems to run android...
On the other hand, on the Dsp products page page www.ti.com/.../products.html

I can see several families that run android: DRA7xx, TDA3xx, AM5xxx, DaVinci...

Some of them are multi-core, other are just single core. They are based on either Arm, C66x or C674x architectures...

I'm not saying I necessarily need a dual core Arm + Dsp. What I'm looking for is a processor (or soc) that can perform dsp operations
but also manage a hmi (color screen + touchpad) under android.

I have to look more deeply into these chips, but if you could help me orienting myself.
I see 3 majors points:

- Power consumption: the equipment is battery powered (1S1P li-ion)
- The application (currently done by a C6748) performs standard filtering et fft operations on 4 to 8 audio paths. (current design has 4 stereo codecs connected on the McAsp port).
- hmi (color screen + touch pad) should be as fluent as possible (precise and fast response when dealing with icons...)

I would suggest then taking a look at the AM335x family devices. You should see options available that support Android and HMI.
