If you are looking for an ARM9 + Floating Point Processor, I would recommend using the OMAP-L13x devices with an integrated ARM9 + a C674x Fixed/Floating Point DSP..
Depending how which Sitara device you are using, the switch should be seemless as the two devices are pin-for-pin compatible with the Sitara AM17x/18x devices.
The Sitara17x/18x devices only have the ARM926 Core.
Also look at the C6EZRun tool http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/C6EZRun that helps visualize the DSP as a tightly coupled accelerator
