Running filter demo using external power supply

Hi,

I'm new to programming the C5505 dev. board and am trying to modify the VC5505 FFT filter demo provided by TI to initalize and run when I connect the board to an external power supply via USB.  Can someone outline the steps I need to take to initialize and load the program when connected to external power?  I imagine I need to use the EEPROM?
