AM6442: confirmation on boot pin settings

Part Number: AM6442

Hi everybody

please I  need a confirmation on boot  setting to have proper  boot out of OSPI

I m expecting  to set as table hereunder  using OSPI as primary  , am I right _

I did the same on EVM and it does not work , while on EVM work if I set xSPI >  where am I wrong ?

thank you

BR

here is the table

  • Hi TI team,

can anyone answer this question please?

Why with a OSPI connected to AM64x Sitara I have to choose xSPI bootmode instead of OSPI bootmode config? I have tested this situation with your GPEVM board and, after programming the FLASH via UART, I configured the bootmode pins as OSPI but the board did not start, while configuring bootmode pins as xSPI the system booted correctly from the previously programmed OSPI.

In the AM64x TRM (rev C) it is stated that "If the flash memory is complaint with JEDEC xSPI standards JESD251 and JESD216D (like the one in the GPEVM and the one I have installed on my board, from Infineon/Cypress), then xSPI boot mode is additionally supported". Additionally means alternative respect to something, in this case I assume respect to the default OSPI.

    Where am I wrong?

    Thank you in advance.

  • The flash device on the EVM is an xSPI that boots up in 1-bit data mode.  Thus, you must use xSPI boot mode which will start out in 1-bit mode, and when the ROM detect the appropriate capabilities, will switch to 8-bit mode.

If you set the bootmode pins to OSPI, the flash needs to power up in 8-bit data mode.  Some flash devices have this capability, but the one on the EVM does not.
