TMDSEVM572X: Altium design files

Part Number: TMDSEVM572X
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AM5728

Hi Team,

Can you please check and advise with following request?

"

We used the design files provided for this board AM572x > www.ti.com/.../TMDSEVM572X, but since it is given as OrCAD, we encounter errors when we convert it to Altium.

• First of all, can we get the Altium design files of the latest revision for this EVM?
• We are in the 2nd revision and although our previous revision is working, in our last revision we cannot access the CPU with UART and JTAG (our JTAG model is XDS200). If we send our design files, I wonder if we can get support from you in finding the error?

"

Thanks in advance

Best Regards

Furkan Sefiloglu

  • Since you already have a Altium design file create, I don't see the benefit of try to convert a new file from OrCad.  I can try and help with the debug of UART and JTAG.  What type of issues are you having?

  • Hello Robert;

The Altium format will allow us to get rid of some convert errors. Because in the layout we convert from Orcad, all stack-up layers come as signals, whereas there are pwr and gnd planes in orcad, but not in altium, and when we want to configure it manually in altium, all pwr plane details are deleted. That's why we wanted to get the Altium format if it exists.

Our main problem is that our new PCB, which we simplified from AM572x EVM, cannot boot.
    New PCB:
    * We preserved PMIC, DRR, eMMC, SD card layout

However, at this point, Uboot is in SPL.
We get the error "leveling timeout on EMIF1". Our estimation is that the leveling time out occurs during the DDR initialization phase.

We couldn't find DDR config tool for AM572x in www.ti.com/.../SITARA-DDR-CONFIG-TOOL link, we want to compare DDR config tool outputs with register values in Uboot, can you send DDR config tool for AM572x and your advice for the problem Is there.

  • The files available on TI.com are the native design files (Allegro).  The only way to get an Altium version is to have the tools do a conversion.  If the conversion process does not create an exact replica (due to shortcomings you have mentioned) - then I know of no other method to get Altium version directly.  The conversion could still be used - but then manual updating afterwards to resolve the items the conversion process did not do properly.

Regarding the EMIF tool - does this application note help with your questions (available under AM5728 on TI.com)
