DM365 MMC 4 support

With reference to this internal thread

http://e2e.ti.com/support/dsp/davinci_digital_media_processors/int-dm3x/f/102/p/100748/374082.aspx

and this customer post: http://e2e.ti.com/support/dsp/davinci_digital_media_processors/f/100/t/90923.aspx

For a DM365 customer using an eMMC flash to cope with the limitations we have in RBL on nand ecc.
On the User's Guide the Dm365 MMC/SD controller is said to support MMC 3.1 (1 bit, low speed) and SDIO 2.0 (4 bit up to 50MHz).

Today's MMC cards 4.2 can go up to 4bit 50MHz too, and the customer validated succesfully a configuration with a Micron and a Toshiba part and is willing to use it in production. Are they missing some critical issue, or can this port really support 4bit 50MHz MMC 4.x?
Can we provide rationals for the answer?

I know that we cannot support all the features of the new MMCs, but performance is the main concern in this context.
As of today, it's like they're using the device out of specs, even if it seems to support this configuration properly.

Best regards

Massimo

  • Hi,

We have tried a lot to get the MMC cards for our testing but it has been very difficult for us to get them. Hence we have not tested them on this platform. We have tested various SD cards and found that to be working fine.

We can update the release document with the cards what we have tested.
