TDA4VM: Which devices use the SMMU in TDA4 K3 J721E?

Dear E2E Experts,

Good day.

In the software linux kernel SDK, the dts configure the SMMU, but I do not see any devices using the SMMU, and I also do not find the description in the hardware datasheet. SO can you tell me which hardware devices use the SMMU and the datasheet link to introduce that? Thank you in advance for your help.

The ARM sMMUv3 is present on the TDA4VM / DRA829. The data manual for TDA4VM is available at link below.

Other devices such as the DRA821 make use of a Private Virtualization Unit (PVU)

Hi Kb,

Here is the response from the customer:

"SMMU is used to do page table translation for IO devices, such as network cards. when the network card does DMA operation to move data from memory to network card, it will first use the SMMU to translate memory virtual address to memory physical address.

but in the spec, I do not find which devices will use SMMU to do such page table translation."

Maybe the customer is looking for a specific application for SMMU.

Hi Jonard,

The TDA4VM device has both a the ARM SMMUv3 and a PVU, either of which can be used to satisfy the customers use case, which is a typical use case for an IOMMU.

From TRM (SPRUIL1B.pdf):

The TDA4MLow (J7AEP) and TDA4MHigh (J7AHP), and DRA821 (J7200) devices have only the PVUs.

Hi Jonard,

Apologies, I'm not following the question. The J721E (TDA4VMid) has an sMMU on it, so the sMMU can be tested on that device.

I am looking for a specific application for SMMU in TDA4 K3 J721E, and want to know the stream ID for this device. TDA4VM is a platform, I want to find a detailed IO device in TDA4VM platform.

I only want to find a application(IO devices) to test myself hypervisor, the jailhouse code[1] define some stream IDS[2] for SMMU. but I do not know the stream ID correspond to which devices. can you tell me a application that using the SMMU? so that I can test myself hypervisor SMMU driver. thanks a lot.
