Does DM6467-594 support 400MHz DDR2?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TVP5158

    Hi !

As we know , there are three kinds of model in the DM6467 family:   DM6467(-594MHz), DM6467(-729MHz), DM6467T(1GHz).

Recently, I got some problems with my custom board. After checking my Hardware design,  I found that my board uses a 594MHz -DM6467, and the ddr2 controller is connected to  a 400MHz DDR2.  The DDR2 is K4T1G164QE-HCF7( 64MX16).

Does DM6467(-594) support 400MHz DDR2? If not, would you tell me the best way to modify my design ? Which kind frequency of DDR2 could I use ?

    If  I want to implement 8-ch D1 capture with 2 tvp5158, is DM6467(-594 )  strong enough ?

    Thank you very much .

  • This question does not seem to be BIOS specific, so I'm going to move this thread to the DaVinci forum in hopes that it will get a faster response there.

  • Jun Lu,

    DM6467 594MHz - supported DDR2 speed is 297MHz.

    DM6467 729MHz - supported DDR2 speed is 310.5MHz.

    DM6467 1GHz - supported DDR2 speed is 400MHz.

So, for both 594MHz and 729MHz parts, use DDR2-666 parts. Refer to DM6467 EVM schematic/BOM (at the following link) for the DM6467 compatible DDR2 parts.

By the way, when you used 400MHz DDR2 part (K4T1G164QE-HCF7( 64MX16)), what is the DDR2 speed configured to? Did you try running this part at 297MHz?

For last part of your question, some other engineer will respond.

    Regards, Srirami.

  • Hi,Srirami

    Thank you for you answer.

I refer to the datasheet of DDR2 K4T1G164QE-HCF7( 64MX16), and find that the range of its input clock  is 125MHz ~ 400MHz .

In my configuration,  the PLLM Register of PLL2  is 21, so my DM6467(-594) DDR2 contoller will output a 297MHz clk to the backend DDR2, which doesn't exceed its range.

So, maybe the design is ok .

Thank you and looking forward to the answer of my second quesion .

  • Also, please note that max CAS Latency supported by DM6467 DDR2 controller is 5 (Look at CL field (Bits[11:9]) in SDRAM Bank Configuration Register (SDBCR) on Page 40 in DM646x DDR2 User's Guide: http://www.ti.com/litv/pdf/sprueq4e). Make sure your DDR2 part supports this CL.

    Regards, Srirami.

  • Hi  Srirami

Thank you for your advice.  Sorry, I am not sure whether my DDR2 part supports CL=5.  Here is the key feature part from its datasheet, and I use the DDR2-800 666.

It said that the CAS is programmable, but I couldn't find the illustration how to config the CAS Latency of it.

Maybe the SDBCR configuration of DM6467 DDR2 controller decide the CAS Latency of the DDR2 part ?

    Best regards, lujun

  • Looks like you should use either DDR2-800 5-5-5 or DDR2-667 5-5-5. You can't use DDR2-800 6-6-6 because it has a CAS latency of 6, which is not supported by DM6467 DDR2 controller.

Please check with DDR2 part manufacturer if  DDR2-800 6-6-6 supports a CAS latency of 5 or not.

    Regards, Srirami.

  • Ok, I will check with the DDR2 part manufacturer to make sure if there is a CAS latency problem .

Thank you very much for your replies .
