Basics to Flash an application in C5509A

Hi!

I have already read a lot of documents on how to write to Flash and load the code from there using bootloader but I still could not figure it out how to do it.

I developed all my firmware and tests using USB Bootloader and now I need to find out how to make the firmware run after I turn off and on the system, I mean, what do I need to do to burn my firmware into external Flash and then load it from the bootloader?

I am using C5509A and CCS v4 on a custom board based on DSK5509A. FlashBurn runs only with CCS v3.3 and XDS100v2 only makes software debug.

Sorry if I am wasting your time with a too basic question, but I really could not figure out how to do this and I really want to keep using C5509A after so much work and not give up on it just because I cannot simply load a code from Flash.

What kind flash memory are you using?

I can find some programming source code for you, based on that and with a little modification, you should be able to make it work for your system. Let me know if that will help.

Thanks Wen,

I am using M29W160E 16-bit Flash from ST. I found source code to burn data to the Flash. I made a code to load the boot table in hex format and could write to the Flash, but it did not boot, perhaps because of file format, byte-word problems, I do not know.

This procedure, however, seems like bootstrapping. Is not there a straight way to do this using a tool or a standard procedure to do this instead of loading the code "by hand"?

What we have here is a "programmer.out" (for 5515/05/04). You need to hook up an emulator and then use the CCS to load this file and run it. The menu will tell you how to select the flash memory.

Is it necessary to use kind of FlashBurn or will just CCS v4 do it? If so, then it will really help a lot, thank you!

Nelson;

All you have to do is to use the CCS to load the "programmer.out" program and run it. So CCS and "programmer.out" are the only things you need. Hope this answers your question.

Yes it does!

Last question: does it work only with AM29LV400? Or is it compatible with other memories, including those that have different key codes (0x555 instead of 0x5555)?
