TMDS64GPEVM: unable to boot from sd card .

Part Number: TMDS64GPEVM

Hi,

We have made the custom board based on am64x evm but we are not able to boot completely .

In our custom board we have removed TCA6424A chip and so  when kernel start executing it is not able to detect the sd card although we have directly connected the sd card enable to 3.3v .

Please note that sdcard is detecting perfectly from uboot and we are able load kernel and device tree .

I just want to know what needs to be done to detect th sdcard in kernel .

  • Hello Paras,

    It looks like 5 minutes passed between the boot and the kernel panic in your terminal output. Is the kernel panic in the terminal output above related to your question? Is there any other terminal output that is related?

    Regards,

    Nick

  • Yes, We believe some driver is causing the kerenel crash but we could not figure out which driver is causing the crash .

    is there any way to find which driver is causing the kernel crash ?

    After removing the "&exp1 6 GPIO ACTIVE_HIGH" property form vdd_mmc1 node we are able to boot from sd card but after few seconds we are still getting the kernel crash :

    vdd_mmc1: fixed-regulator-sd {
    /* TPS2051BD */
    compatible = "regulator-fixed";
    regulator-name = "vdd_mmc1";
    regulator-min-microvolt = <3300000>;
    regulator-max-microvolt = <3300000>;
    regulator-boot-on;
    enable-active-high;
    vin-supply = <&vsys_3v3>;
    - gpio = <&exp1 6 GPIO_ACTIVE_HIGH>;
    };

    Since we are using the same DDR ram as that of am64x evm board so i am not sure if we need to configure something

  • Hi Paras,

    I am routing your query to our DDR expert for comments.

  • Hi Paras, the AM64x EVM has a DDR4 device with VTT termination.  Was all of this copied to your design?  Including the connecting GPIO0_12 which controls the enable to the VTT regulator?  Can you send the portion of the DDR schematic?

    REgards,

    James

  • Hi James,

    We have not connected GPIO0_12 pin to VTT regulator but there is a provision to connect GPIO0_11 pin to VTT .

    We have connected GPIO0_11 pin to vtt_supply and modified the vtt node as given below :

    vtt_supply: vtt-supply {
    compatible = "regulator-gpio";
    regulator-name = "vtt";
    regulator-min-microvolt = <0>;
    regulator-max-microvolt = <3300000>;
    gpios = <&main_gpio0 11 GPIO_ACTIVE_HIGH>;
    states = <0 0x0 3300000 0x1>;
    u-boot,dm-spl;
    };

    i have also uploaded the ddr schematic on the following link :

    https://gitlab.com/parasbhanot/design_ddr/-/blob/main/DDR1-merged.pdf

    Still we are getting the Kernel cash .

  • This is perplexing because earlier in the thread you show boot logs all the way into the kernel, but your mem test shows that you are failing to read half of a 32-bit word.  Is the memtest portion that is failing just what you showed, or are you failing to read from all locations?  Also, did you change the DDR configuration header file, or are you reusing the one for the EVM without changes?

    Regards,

    James

  • Hi james ,

    Problem has been solved . There was assembly issue (calibration resistor was not placed).

  • ok, thanks for confirming

    Regards,

    James
