AM5728: EMIF Tool

Guru 10115 points
Part Number: AM5728

Hi Support Team,

Regarding the AM57x EMIF Tool, I have received the following question from my customer.
https://www.ti.com/lit/an/sprac36e/sprac36e.pdf

Question:

I have a question about the values to be entered in F and G in Step 3-DDRTimings of the tool.
I have read the values to be entered here from the DDR datasheet.
In this case, we are using DDR3L-1866, so I am entering the speed grade specification.

In this case, I am using DDR3L-1866, so I am entering the speed grade specification of DDR3L-1866.
For example, tFAW is listed in the DDR data sheet as follows.

In this case, I entered "35". I know that this is the correct setting
because it has been working properly from the early development stage until now.
I believe this is the correct setting, but please let me check if there is any problem.

Best regards,
Kanae

  • Hi Support Team,

This question is simply to check if the customer's understanding is correct.
If there are any unclear points, please point them out.
Your time and support will be very appreciated.

    Best regards,
    Kanae

  • Hi,

My general understanding is that the timings corresponding to the speed grade of the memory can be used at lower data rates. However since this is a timing requirement of the DRAM, I would recommend that you verify with the memory vendor as to whether 35 ns or 50 ns should be used at -1066 data rate for your specific part number.

    Kevin

  • Hi Kevin,

    Thank you for your reply.
I will share this with my customer.

  • Hi Kevin,

I have an additional question from my customer.

I have found the DDR settings for AM572x_IDK in the following documents.
AM572x Industrial Development Kit (IDK) Evaluation Module (EVM) Hardware UG (Rev. E)

The IDK used was DDR3L: MT41K256M16HA-125, with a data rate of 1600MHz.

The IDK settings I downloaded from here were as follows.

On the other hand, the specifications of the memory used are as follows

From this result, I can assume that it is appropriate to enter the value of the memory
for this speed grade, rather than trying to match a lower data rate.

    Question.
Did you check with the memory vendor to see if you should use 50ns or 40ns
    before deciding on this value?
I think it would be appropriate to use 50ns if it is to match the low rate setting,
but is it a result of the answer that it is appropriate to match the high rate setting?

In fact, I am also considering using DDR3L from the same vendor as the memory used for the IDK,
and when I ask this manufacturer a question, I am thinking of using the fact that
there are applications running with settings implemented to match the high rate as reference information.

I would like to have your response as TI regarding the above question.

    Best regards,
    Kanae

  • Hi Kevin,

Could you please give me any comments?

    Best regards,
    Kanae

  • Hi Kevin,

I have to report to my customer, so could you please let me know
when you will be able to reply, or at least a schedule?

    Best regards,
    Kanae

  • Hi Kanae,

I unfortunately do not know the history of the AM572x config. Again, I would recommend that you verify the correct timing with the memory vendor for your specific part.

    Regards,
    Kevin

  • Hi Kevin,

    Thank you for your support.
I will ask my customer to understand the above information.

    Best regards,
