Davicom USB to Ethernet conversion with AM18xx

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AM1808

Hello All,

I think DM9621 can be used to connect to the USB2.0 OTG port we have on AM1808 to convert it to Ethernet interface. Some questions:

1.       Has this DM9621 been used with AM1808

2.       As far as I could find out, the bit rate should not impact if USB 2.0 full mode can be used, as it is ~60MBps practically 25MBps. Wheras Ethernet is only 12.5MBps. Is this conclusion correct?

3.       Is any USB Hub needed in addition to DM9621?

4.       What is the approx cost of this DM9621 part?

5.       Any metrics on the it possible bit-rate reduction/side effects/known issues using the USB 2.0 OTG to USB-Ethernet convertor from Davicom?

6.       Any other alterrnative devices we could have like used in Dlinks’?

7.       Will using an Ethernet hub be a cheaper (fully TI) option, if data rates can be compromised to 50% full EMAC?

Please let me know

Best Regards,

Feroz

  • Feroz,

[1.       Has this DM9621 been used with AM180]

I have used DM960x (full speed model) on OMAP3 and it worked for me. I think it should work with AM18x also. I have seen some customer using usb-to-ethernet adapters.

[2.       As far as I could find out, the bit rate should not impact if USB 2.0 full mode can be used, as it is ~60MBps practically 25MBps. Wheras Ethernet is only 12.5MBps. Is this conclusion correct?]

It should not be a issue.

[3.       Is any USB Hub needed in addition to DM9621? ]

    No.

[4.       What is the approx cost of this DM9621 part?]

    You can check with Davicom.

[5.       Any metrics on the it possible bit-rate reduction/side effects/known issues using the USB 2.0 OTG to USB-Ethernet convertor from Davicom?]

I am not aware of any issue.

    Regards,
