TMDS64GPEVM: two different PHYs

Guru 10275 points

Part Number: TMDS64GPEVM

Hi Support Team,

The ethernet PHY used in AM64xEVM is the following product.
www.ti.com/.../TMDS64GPEVM

DP83867IRRGZx1 for CPSW
DP83869HMRGZTx2 for ISCCG

Please let me know the background when you designed
this evaluation board with two different PHYs.
My customer has asked why the PHYs were not kept the same,
please reply to his question.

Best regards,
Kanae

  • Hi Kanae,

DP83867IRRGZ is a low cost PHY that does not support MII without board mods.

DP83869HMRGZT can support both RGMII and MII (the latter being required for EtherCAT) which can be exposed via ICSSG.

The intent for the latter was to make the interface programmable between RGMII and MII to demonstrate different industrial communication protocols without needing a hardware change.

    Best,

    Andrei

  • Hi Andrei,

    Thank you for your reply.

I understand that EVM is taken into consideration
to be able to evaluate various protocols.

    Best regards,
    Kanae
