AM37xx CUS Reference Layout

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AM3517

Is there an existing reference design or board using the AM37xx in CUS package that can server as a reference for layout of the LPDDR interface using Via Channel Array.

I have looked at the CUS Routing Guidelines http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/AM37x_CUS_Routing_Guidelines

The AM37xx EVM, Beagleboard and a host of others use the POP packages.

The closest I have seen is the Craneboard (AM3517) with DDR2.

Thanks,

  • I'm not aware of any reference design for the 37x CUS package.

Unfortunately most boards we make are done in haste (to get the EVMs out to our customers) and are poor references for optimal design and use many more layers than normal for speed in layout.

Your best bet is to start with the CUS routing guidelines and go from there.  The file shown on the CUS routing guideline is available if you want to start from that, however it is in Allegro only and is not production ready.

I wish I could help more.

  • As a side note, while not being exactly the same, a good reference for starting a design can be found here:

    http://designsomething.org/craneboard/w/hardware/default.aspx

This is a different, but similar package, and a different, but similar memory (DDR2), but it does show a good example of the suggested layout strategies.

Currently I can't get this layout to open, so I've called it to the attention of the website owners, but it should be back up soon.

  • Thanks Kevin.

I was looking at the crane board also.
