How to interface C6678 to CPCI/PCI bus?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: XIO2001

Hi,

I am quite surprised at C6678's performance but find it uses pcie instead of pci  interface. My question is how to interface this dsp to a CPCI/PCI bus system? And how about its band width? Thank you in advance!

Best Regards,

Johhny

  • Hi Johnny,

The PCI Express to PCI bus translation bridge might be the solution for the interface. Like TI XIO2001 is one PCIe-to-PCI bridge supporting X1 PCIe and PCI local bus interface. It should be compatible with C6678 since C6678 supports both X1 or X2 PCIe for Gen1 and Gen2.

For the band width, C6678 supports up to Gen2, 2 lanes (X2) PCIe, which is about 1GB/s throughput. (Please refer to the other thread for the PCIe throughput discussion).

    XIO2001 support Gen1, 1lane (X1) PCIe, which is about 250MB/s and 32-bit PCI at 66MHz, which is about 266MB/s.

In order to improve the bus performance, you can also think about using PCI-to-PCIe bridge for the legacy PCI devices interfacing to the PCI Express switches in the system. Then C6678 may take advantage of the higher performance I/O interface.

    Sincerely,

    Steven
