TMDS243GPEVM: Hardware not connected error debug

Hi Matt,

Which Benchmark Demo your customer is using on AM243x GP EVM? Did they download the MCU+ SDK 08.02.00.31 from the following link?

I am using Sitara AM243x EVM Out of Box Experience.

When I clicked launch a lot of software was downloaded, unknown if the specific file was downloaded.

I have now downloaded the file from the link and executed the install.  What next?

I am still experiencing the issue.

I followed the instructions for EVM setup,

I noted appropriate serial port, loaded and confirmed Python, set switches for UART boot mode, confirmed character "C" printed every 2-3 seconds, then closed UART terminal.

In command window; changed directory, sent python uart_uniflash.... etc.

Received messages as shown in setup, Parsing, executing etc..

Process continued to 65% completion then error-ed out with "expected ACK received b"0"" replies and 11 NAKs.

Per instructions, cycled power and re-ran script.

Repeated process, went to 32% completion.

Thoughts, ideas?

Taking some time off, will be back next Wed to try again.

It sound like your UART communication is not very stable. Can you chance the USB cable from J26 to your PC and try again?

After changing USB port the flashing was successful.  Odd.

Unfortunately, I still have the original problem, "error configuring debug server... failed to connect to AVL2434_A:V device... please unplug..."

Yes I believe did.  In my system it is port 7.  The UART output requested was taken from port 7.

There are 3 set of messages;

yellow mark    ti_transport_usb - connecting

yellow mark    ti_transport_xds - connecting

yellow mark    ti_transport_usb - connecting (com7, 115200, waiting for data...)

yellow mark    ti_transport_xds - connecting

gray mark       ti_transport_usb - disconnected

gray mark       ti_transport_xds - disconnected

Sometimes the messages change quickly - fails fast, sometimes it takes many seconds - fails slow.

They both should be connected and green mark. It looks like you ti_transport_xds has problem. Can you try to change the USB cable which connects the J28 (JTAG) to your PC and try again?

Tried new cable from J28 to USB, same result.  Tried another USB port, same result.

Note, because we are now looking at J28 JTAG port, I again opened device manager to observe ports.

When initially plugged in cable, the device manager under ports shows,

• XDS110 class application/user UART (com5)
• XDS110 class auxiliary data port (com6)

As soon as launch is started the device manager changes,

under ports, both XDS110 ports disappear

an entry for other devices is created with

• Tiva Device Firmware Update

There is a possibility that the XDS-110 (TM4C129) needs firmware update. Can you run the "hello world" example in MCU+ SDK on the AM243x EVM?

When the the CCS connect to the AM243x EVM first time, CCS will check the XDS-110 for firmware updating. It will make sure the XDS-110 firmware is up to date. Maybe the on-line demo cannot do it successfully, but the CCS target configuration file will certainly do it.

After you successfully run the hello world example (hopefully the XDS-110 firmware is also up to date), then you can try the benchmark demo again.

Not having a good time here.

When I press the MCU + SDK button in out of box experience I expected MCU + SDK to run - it did not.

A screen suggesting 6 different downloads such as starting guides, build sheets etc. was presented.

The MCU + SDK directory exists and contains files downloaded at your direction on 4/27/22.  Thinking there may be a newer version I tried the link on the screen for downloading MCU + SDK - it was broken.  I'll use what I have.

What file do I need to execute to get MCU + SDK to run?  Once running what will I need to do to get "Hello World" to run?  I noted there are different versions of "Hello World", which one?

I am not a software guy.  I thought the purpose of the demo board and the Out-Of-Box Experience was to make it EASY to see what the device could do.

So far, it has not been easy, it doesn't work and I have spent a lot of time with nothing to show for it.

I understood you frustration. The open-box-experience should be quick and easy to run. I will certainly report to the right team about your difficult experience.

On the other hand, I believe that you are  very close to the success after all the hurdles you have jumped. Here is how you can build and run the Hello World demo. Again the point is not to run the Hello World demo, but to make sure the firmware for on board XDS-110 to be updated. Please follow the instructions in the following links:

I am glad it finally worked for you. I also appreciate your patience and perseverance. I have reported your experience to the demo development team. Unfortunately the on-board XDS-110 firmware update has to be done in the CCS manually. We will certainly seek ways to improve the Out-of-Box demo experience in the future.
