TMS320C6748: price for dsp kit(development board) 6748

Part Number: TMS320C6748
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: OMAP-L138, 66AK2G12

What is the approximate price for a single dsp kit(development board) 6748??

I have tried to explore the relevant TI pages but i am unable to understand the exact and latest price of this dsp development board as there are some other prices also mentioned for other components

  • Hello!

Same as you I don't see devboard price on TI site as it is reported to be out of stock. Still there is a link to buy from distributor, and DigiKey and Mouser seem to have some of them at $234+. Please not, that development for DSP is best done having emulator. This board has no DSP emulator bundled, so if you have no XDS560 at your disposal, that would be a costly purchase too. Also note there is another device OMAP-L138, which has ARM core and C674x DSP core on the same chip. It comes at around $200, but also has no built in emulator.

I've seen your previous question about C6713. Comparing to that either OMAP-L138 or C6748 are newer devices with somewhat better support. Nevertheless, there are even more fresher options and probably you may want consider them too.

  • Please inform me about the fresher options that you indicated at end of your answer. Thanks

  • "Please not, that development for DSP is best done having emulator. This board has no DSP emulator bundled" What about C6713?That board is also not having emulator

  • Hi,

That is very simple: C6713 is very old device, L138/C6748 are somewhat fresher, but one may also look for C66x based devices, they are superior to both families. C6713 is tempting as it was used in so many DSP courses in academia, there is audio port, so it may look as easier start. Either way, there is superior device, 66AK2G12, https://www.ti.com/product/66AK2G12, and I would check whether its capabilities fit your needs.

  • I had no C6713 DSK at my hands, but product page at www.ti.com/.../TMDSDSK6713 tells it has onboard emulator. Nevertheless, I would suggest to read carefully support & training section at the bottom of that page just to understand this product was developed decades ago, bundled with tools obsolete decades ago and running on the operating systems you barely could find today.

My feeling is that both devices and their SDKs are somehow maintained for the most recent ones, and with older user is offered to ask other dinos for help. Through the questions you are asking it seems you have limited experience with whole TI ecosystem (no offense, and apologies for possible misjudgement), so I am trying to push you towards modern devices and tools, because they may have less steep learning curve with fewer underwater rocks.
