How and where to start builing my signage card

This question is most likely before the beginning... I want to create a simple card with min' features that will have 1 memory card and lan for network to get the files via FTP... dose anyone can give me a start point?

I saw that some companies offer Developer Kits, is that what I need to give the company to create boards for me?

any info will be great!

Probably the best thing you should do is decide which device you are going to use, then see what type of development boards are available. Start with this page: http://focus.ti.com/general/docs/gencontent.tsp?contentId=45581&DCMP=TIHomeTracking&HQS=Other+OT+home_p_processors and use the selection tool to see which devices meet your criteria. Once you select a device you can go to the Product Folder to see details on Tools available.
