DRA77P: Hardware JPEG encoding module

Part Number: DRA77P

Hi team,

Here's an issue from the customer may need your help:

Is there a hardware JPEG encoding module for the DRA77P? If so, how much throughput does it have? If not, is there an alternative? The throughput required is 720p, 360fps.

Best Regards,

Cherry

  • Hi Cherry,

JPEG is an old standard, it can be implemented to process color hi-res images (4K) even on quite small devices with 64 kB of RAM and sequential processing. The pointed device has two advanced DSP cores with concurent processing, so there is no need for additional DCT hardware accelerator in this configuration.

    Alexey

  • Oh, I was naive about perfomance. Anyway, MJPEG is relatively simple algorithm, although for RDP traffic it requires extensive interframe processing before final low bitrate can be achievable.
