C5505/C5504/C5515/C5514 Board and System Design Considerations

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMS320C5504, TMS320C5515, TMS320C5514, TMS320VC5503, TMS320C5505

Is there a specific document that is like SPRAB14 "Board and System Design Considerations for the TMS320VC5503/06/07/09A DSPs" for the TMS320C5505 TMS320C5504 TMS320C5515 or TMS320C5514 parts?

  • Hi,

Have refered the document  http://focus.ti.com/lit/an/sprabd7/sprabd7.pdf. This has the bootloader details for C5515/14/04/05 DSPs

  • I found that referring to the SPRABD7 document aforementioned as well as the following sections in the C5515 datasheet were most helpful:

section 3.5 All the tables In particular  (Table 3-20. Reserved and No Connects Terminal Functions) In the event you want the C5514 and/C5515 to be pin for pin compatible be sure to pay close attention to the LCD and SAR pins, as they do not exist on the C5514.

In the event you don't want to use the USB or EMIF pay close attention to notes in section (Table 3-21. Supply Voltage Terminal Functions).

Section 6.11.1 regarding RTC only mode (Make sure there is an independent supply for the CVDRTC

Section 4.7   Multiplexed Pin Configurations (In particular make sure the pin multiplex settings for  EBSR PPMODE BITS,

    [EBSR.SP1MODE Bits], and

[EBSR.SP0MODE Bits] give you the desired set of peripherals and GPIO pins you intend to use.

I would strongly recommend maintaining a design that is consistent, wherever possible, with the reference schematics for the C5515 ezDSP (aka USBSTICK) board or C5515 EVM board.
